Let Pyramid Marble & Granite make life happen for you!
Granite has been around since the formation of the earth. It is 100% natural and next to diamonds, is one of the hardest stones. Moreover, granite is the hardest natural material available for counter tops. It is composed of a variety of minerals including quartz, feldspar and mica. Granite comes in many different colors, and these different colors reflect various combinations of the minerals.
Scratch Resistancy Due to its natural makeup, it is very difficult to scratch polished granite. Referring to Moh's Hardness Scale (1-10), with 10 being the equivalent hardness of diamonds; granite holds a ranking of 7-8. Since granite is next to diamonds in hardness, essentially it takes another piece of unpolished granite or a diamond to scratch the surface. Stain Resistancy Polished granite is extremely durable and stain resistant (visit any cemetery and take a look!) DO NOT let some other product salesperson create a mental monster in your mind regarding staining. We do not anticipate any staining in granite. However, in the event a stain occurs, it can be pulled out of the counter top. Sealing with a silicone impregnator is easily done by the homeowner every 15 years for added peace of mind. Questions regarding this issue? Ask a member of our staff at Pyramid Marble & Granite. Heat Resistancy Granite is heat resistant for everyday kitchen needs. Setting hot pots or bake-ware heated to normal baking temperatures on your granite counter tops will not burn or damage them. Caring for Your Beautiful Granite Mild soap and hot water are basically all you need for cleaning granite counter tops. Granite DOES NOT harbor bacteria by itself. When you're done with food prep, etc. - just wash your tops off! A mild household cleaner (glass & surface) will create a lustrous gloss; however, avoid any harsh and/or abrasive cleaners.

Marble is the product of limestone that has been crystallized from changes in pressure and temperature. The primary element of this stone is calcite, which is the most widely distributed mineral on the earth's surface.
Scratch Resistancy The word "marble" stems from the Greek marmaros "shining stone". Because of its beauty and elegance, marble is a popular choice for counter tops, floor and fireplace surrounds; although, marble is much softer than granite or engineered stone. Stain Resistancy Marble works beautifully especially in the bath where the veining patterns and colors can create exquisite designs. However, it is sensitive to acidic foods such as vinegar, lemon juice, tomatoes and wine. Therefore, marble is less durable in highly utilized areas. Care & Maintenance for Marble Surfaces Avoid any acidic or abrasive cleaners that can dull or etch the surface over time. Cleaning should be done with mild soap and water. Marble can also be sealed to help prevent the absorption of stains into the stone.
